Steve Clarke – Lead and backing vocals
Steve started his singing career in his junior school choir where he also played a mean recorder. In 2002 he joined a well established commitments tribute band called “Committed” as lead vocals (unfortunately there was no place for his recorder playing prowess so he and his recorder parted company – a very sad loss to the art). In late 2005, and more than 100 gigs later the band went their separate ways and Steve took a well deserved rest. However, a little over 12 months later the performing bug was biting hard and he auditioned for a newly forming band that had a plan to perform the very best of 60’s Soul as well as 0the best songs from the Blues Brothers (one of his all time favourite films). This band was to eventually settle on the name Soul Patrol .
Jo Carthey – Lead and backing vocals
Jo trained at Birmingham Stage School and went on to do several Seasons at various Butlin’s Camps and Cruise Liners as well as performing in Panto’s as a chorus girl. In 2002 she had also joined a well established commitments tribute band called “Committed” where she would later join up with Steve after the original lead singer, following an ill advised rock and roll moment with one of the backing singers, did the proverbial dawn runner never to be seen or heard of again. From there she has been lead singer of 2 other bands as well as providing lead and backing vocals in Soul Patrol.
Chris (the fat man) Ellis – Rhythm and lead guitar
Chris has been knocking around the live music scene since Gods dog was a pup and has played in far too many bands to list here. Sufficed to say Chris’s love of Soul and Blues has not been diminished by the years playing and performing, in fact quite the opposite. Chris joined Soul Patrol very shortly after it formed in 2007 and has brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the band, not least because he was there the 1st time around for most of the material the band currently do.
Roger (look at what you could have won) Bowen
Roger is the latest member of the band having replaced our previous long standing bass player. Roger was taught guitar by Dave Carroll (original member of the Steve Gibbons Band) and has now been playing and teaching for over 25 years. An accomplished bass player Roger is equally at home on lead and rhythm guitar and has honed his craft with various blues, soul, country and jazz bands all over the Midlands and is a very welcome addition to the Soul Patrol Family
Nick Jeavons – Keyboards and backing vocals
Nick is the youngest member of the band and joined Soul Patrol in early 2010. Graduating from Keele University with a degree in Music and Music Technology Nick is now a full time Keyboard and Piano teacher and, as well as playing in Soul Patrol, he has worked as Musical Director for Startime Variety and plays keyboard in the Sambuca Diaries Big Band. On top of this he is set to visit our cousins across the pond for 8 weeks over the summer to teach keyboard “Camp Rock” style to a group of charming, not in the slightest bit spoiled or obnoxious, American kids.
Lee Boden – Tenor & Alto Saxophone
Lee is an award winning Saxophonist who trained at the London College of Music & Media where he attained a distinction. Having toured both Europe and the UK Lee has played with Classical, Jazz and Concert Bands as well as several other covers / tribute bands playing music from UB40, Madness and Stevie Wonder. Lee currently plays with a Dance Band, Hampton Jazz Band specialising in Dixieland Jazz as well as being a member of the West Midland Concert Band for the past 15 years as well as being a full time member of Soul Patrol – phew!!! Apart from exceptional skills and musical knowledge both Lee & Mark bring a fantastic energy to the brass line up in where he virtually never stands still.
Mark Jackson – Trumpet
Mark was virtually born with a trumpet in his mouth and has done theatre work shows including Rat Pack, big Band and Jazz. As well as playing with Soul Patrol Mark is currently Musical Director and Lead Trumpet of The Worcestershire Jazz Orchestra and Lead Trumpet of The Steve King Big Band and also finds time to be an integral part of The Garry Allcock All Stars Big Band and the MYJO Fat Chops Big Band and has worked as a session musician for EMI/Polydor records where he had the distinction of playing on a King Adora track– another phew!!!
Ray (the mad man) Horton – Drums
Ray started playing the drums at the tender age of 8 and by the age of 12 had rattled the bats from the belfry at his 1st gig in the local church, and just 2 years later had his 1st residency at the Albion Supporters Club (boing boing come on you baggies). At 18 he moved to Yorkshire (this kind of action would later become known as an A.S.B.O) where he turned pro and toured Europe and the UK with bands such as; Breakdown, (an offshoot of “Love Affair”), Legend,( formed by former Sabbath singer Tony Martin), Demolition (releasing an Album and a single with 2 British and 1 European Tour) Karrier (releasing 2 albums, 2 singles and supporting Magnum on 2 tours). Ray has also played with many successful covers / tribute bands including; The Redbeards from Texas, Money for Nothing and Colin Halls Rebel Soul Band. Currently Ray divides his time between The Groove Band and Soul Patrol where he brings solid back beat, loads of drive and Umph and a dry wit that can fold you in 2.
Anthony Taylor – Sound Engineer
Anthony has been working with sound since 2002 and his natural talent and ear for sound have already led him to a very impressive CV. In that time he has worked in Radio with the BBC on both live outside and studio broadcasts including “BBC Blast” for young new bands broadcast live from Birmingham Town Hall, Birmingham Artsfest for the past 2 years and also with Kerrang Radio. Add to this already impressive portfolio of work, Adam Zindini (Stereophonics), and Neville Staples (The Specials) and Nickleback, as well as countless other top flight covers and tribute bands, it becomes very apparent Tony is one of the best and most sought after sound engineers in the Midlands.
''A somewhat belated note to say thank you to you and the rest of the band for your performance on Saturday night. I thought you were fantastic, and so did everyone else - lots of people have said you were the best band they’ve ever heard at a party. I have been telling everyone who you are in case they want to book you. I was a bit worried I’d taken a risk by booking you on the strength of the feedback from, let’s be honest, a load of drunks at my local where you’d played a few months previous but I needn't have been; you were great.
Darren Weston - Yardley''
Please pass on my thanks to Soul Patrol. They did a great job at my wife's 50th on Saturday and I would have no problem recommending these guys to anyone, they worked very hard and had us dancing all night. Once again many thanks.
Clive - Worcester
'Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Fantastic news that the band is available! Our friends Carl and Marie had SOUL PATROL at their wedding in 2009 and people still talk about you now! ''
Tina Logan - July 2010
I wanted to write just say how much we appreciated what you and the rest of the band did for us at our wedding last month! You really were the icing on the cake. Our friends thought we were mad paying for an 8 piece band when we could have had a solo singer with backing tracks for half the price like they'd had for the engagement, but you were worth 10 times what they had paid and everyone one agree's that we had the best value for money you could get. The atmosphere, the amount of equipment, instruments and movement on stage were just streets apart. Thanks once again.
Pete & Cheryl - Oldbury
A brief note to say thanks to the band. What a night we had, you were punctual, professional but most of all simply wonderful. We new all the songs and the Blues Brothers tribute you did was fantastic, I was gasping for air at the end of it. If you want a recommendation don't hesitate passing on my details...that's if there's anyone left that I haven't already told
Allun - Warwick
